Made of anodized aluminum and scored with 36 lines, equally spaced 10 degrees apart. Twelve additional index lines are scored on the handle in 30 degree increments. These markings allow the metalsmith to divide most rings and circles into any number of equally spaced divisions. By slipping a ring onto the mandrel, you can quickly divide your ring into various divisions with accuracy into 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 36 parts.. As an example, let's say you're making a ring with three settings in a row. You can mark their positions exactly. Or, if you're fashioning a tapered ring, you can center the stone or the widest portion of the top of the ring on the 0 line, turn the mandrel 180 degrees, and mark the center point of the bottom of the ring immediately, without using calipers. Designed by master jeweler Samuel Brown, the Indexing Mandrel is an indispensable tool in creating wax patterns or finished rings. For ring sizes 1 to 13. Overall length 10".
